Fall 2007
I finally have finished my second composition for wind band titled Advent Rhapsody; fantasy on ancient carols! The piece includes quotes from Lo! How a Rose E'er Blooming, God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman, and O Come, O Come Emmanuel. You can check out the synthesized version on my sounds page.
The marching season flew by and the Mt. Juliet HS Band which played my arrangements won the Small Division Mayors Cup at MCI! The McLean HS Band which also used my arrangements won best music in prelims at the Towson, MD Bands of America Regional in Class AAA over bands such as Dobyns Bennett and Norwin!
Headed to watch BOA Grand National Finals here in a little bit. Last year in the RCA Dome.

The debut of "Strata" took place last month performed by the McGavock Wind Ensemble. The work came off nicely despite a few rough spots along the way during the performance. You can see video or hear a better quality mp3 of the performance on the sounds page.
After a much needed week vacation to Florida, I am continuing to work on the 2007 marching band shows I am writing. I just completed McLean HS (Virginia) and am working on Mt Juliet and Lebanon. The John Overton HS Band, the Middle Township HS Band (New Jersey) and the Green Hope HS (North Carolina) will also be using my arrangements. Austin Peay State University will be using my arrangemet of a Michael Buble chart (I'm Feeling Good) that will surely get the stadium down and dirty.
Nice to see Santa Clara Vanguard off to a fast start. I am looking forward to seeing them along with Phantom Regiment at MTSU next month!

I just completed my first full work for wind band titled "Strata for Wind Band: Variation In Layers". The introduction to the piece is very rhythmic and has a minimalistic feel to it which returns at the end. A bit of melodic material enters about 45 seconds into it letting us know that we are in store for a mixed bag. The "groove" refers to the constant hit of the woodblock that keeps the piece in the pocket. A very melodic and flowing section takes the listener into an almost other worldy and etheral state of mind before the the piece heads towards the rousing conclsion. Click here to hear the work.

I just finished my second original marching band composition titled "My Heart and I". The music includes quotes from Ennio Morricone's "My Heart and I" which is a beautiful ballad by the famous Itialian film composer. The music also includes a bit of "Unbreak My Heart" by Toni Braxton throughout the Broken Heart movement II. Mvt. III "Pure Heart" reworks the Morriconne theme and leaves the audience with a feeling of hope for their own hearts.

I just completed an original marching band show titled Star Stages! The show is based on Stars and includes quotes from "When You Wish Upon a Star". Check it out on my music page. This is the material I was reading that helped inspire me. The movements are titled Supernova, Nebula, Blackhole and Quasar. Lots of opportunities for cool visual exploration/coordination with this music.
